Privacy policy
Shared (app id com.shared.expenses) · Effective 29 October 2026
Shared is an expense-splitting app. It has no ads, no analytics and no tracking. This policy explains what data the app handles and why.
Data that stays on your device
By default everything you enter — your name, friends’ names, groups, expenses, payments, comments, notes, reminders and receipt photos — is stored only on your device. It is not sent anywhere unless you sign in and choose to share a group.
If you have turned on Android device backup, Android may include this app’s data in your encrypted Google backup so it can be restored on a new phone. You control this in your phone’s settings.
Data sent when you use cloud sync
Cloud sync is optional. If you create an account and share a group:

Groups you do not share, blocked-user lists, reports, notification settings and app-lock settings never leave your device.
Cloud data is stored by Supabase (database and file storage, hosted in Canada, ca-central-1) and is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Access is limited to group members by database security rules.
Exchange rates
When you ask for a currency rate, the app requests it from the Frankfurter public API (api.frankfurter.dev). Only the two currency codes are sent.
Device permissions
- Internet — only for cloud sync and exchange rates.
- Notifications — only if you turn on reminders.
- Camera / photos — only when you pick a receipt. Receipt text is read on your device; images are not uploaded unless you share them.
- Biometrics / device passcode — only if you turn on app lock; handled by your phone’s operating system.
Payments
Shared never moves money. “Pay with Venmo / PayPal” simply opens those apps; Shared receives nothing back from them.
Sharing and selling
We do not sell personal data, show ads or share data with advertisers or data brokers.
Retention and deletion
- Local data: delete it any time from Your account → Erase all data on this device, or by uninstalling the app.
- Cloud account: delete it in the app from Your account → Sync across devices → Account, sync and sign out → Delete cloud account. This permanently removes your account, the groups you own and their receipt files, and your memberships in other groups. See how to delete your account.
- Expenses you added to a group owned by someone else remain part of that group’s history for its other members.
Children
Shared is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
